Fire Safety

Cooinda has an established association with the Victor Harbor Building Fire Safety Committee VHBFSC.  This positive relationship has provided for a partnership approach to the fire safety policies and procedures of the camp.  In 2018 Cooinda set a robust plan to the building fire safety requirements of the camp to ensure relevant compliance and operational capability.

A fully monitored to MFS base Fire Detection system was commissioned resulting in all accommodation areas of a 20 people capacity or more and common recreational areas having appropriate smoke detection or heat sensors.  This is relayed to the central fire panel, that automatically sounds appropriate evacuation instructions in the event of a fire in any building.  Simultaneously, the alarm is sent to MFS monitoring via 4G data connection.

Additionally, Cooinda has engaged the expertise of Bushfire Solutions SA to commission and extensive Bush Fire Management Plan that is incorporated into the organisations Emergency Management Systems and Procedures, including extensive evacuation procedures.

Bushfire management controls remain a significant priority to the current Cooinda management team and as such ongoing relationships with the VHBFSC ensure continuous improvement of our plans and approach.

Currently the management of Cooinda are working on an on-site Safer Building solution.  While currently no Cooinda building is fully compliant to the Building Code to allow this endorsement, operational procedures such as closing on catastrophic Fire Danger days and bus transport transfers provide a safe operating environment.  An investment in a Safer Building solution is supported by the VHBFSC as the ultimate level of protection and based on options available could support additional revenue (refer Growth and Opportunities).
